The Abusive Hosts Blocking List (AHBL) Review

Reviewed by Milo
My dealings with the AHBL have been very disturbing. While changing the default email domain name at our organization, I inadvertantly allowed relaying. Shortly after realizing this, I made the necessary corrections. I am not relaying now. I made requests to be removed from the list. Their web site says it sould take about a week to be removed. It also says not to respond more than once as it will not speed up your removal. Well after more than two weeks I sent in another request stating that I needed to be removed. I recieved a generic computer generated response saying that it was being looked into. That was three weeks ago. Now here's the part that really agrivates me. This is causing problems for me and my company. We believe that we are being unfairly blocked. We have had no communication with a human being as they make that impossible. What kind of remedy is one left with? Legal of course. But they also have an additional page on their website on "HOW NOT TO GET REMOVED" They claim that threatening legal action will make things worse? WHAT?! Hold my IP address hostage. If I dispute that action I will kept on the list list longer? That is so arrogant. I'm glad they are out there blocking spammers, but the power they hold has gone to their heads as evidenced by their complete lack of communication people requesting removal from their list.
